Centennial Park 125 Anniversary

This year is Sydney's Centennial Park's 125 anniversary. For those that aren't familiar with CP, its Sydney's version of Central Park. Its a really beautiful park and though I haven't spent much time in it, mostly because I live in Bondi and rather be on the beach, its perfect for a variety of outdoor activities like jogging, picnicking and even horse back riding.

In honor of CP's 125 anniversary the park was hosting a number of cool things. So last night, we decided to head inward and see what it had to offer.

What a pretty and relaxing evening with the stars out, perfect temperature and colorful lights everywhere.

We had a snack at one of the food trucks, checked out the light garden, the wishing tree and the light boulevard. While at the wishing tree, I read one of the wishes already hanging and written in a young looking handwriting, its said "I want lots of friends." Instantly, it melt my heart and I could picture a young kid writing that. Man, I do not miss those years!

Celebrating 125 years of Centennial Park

Sculpture by the Sea 2012

Many people look forward to the annual Sculpture by the Sea walk from Bondi Beach to Tamarama Beach. It is regularly held in October/November and 2012 marks our 3rd one. Even though the art ranges from really cool to not so cool, it is always a good time.

This year we met up at Bronte Beach for some brekie with our dearest friends, Alex and Michelle, before heading over to Tamarama to start the walk on a hot and sunny Sunday afternoon. This 2k walk is a parade of over 100 sculptures from various artists from around the world.

Cockatoo Island Outpost Exhibition

We have previously mentioned Cockatoo Island in one of our previous posts but this time we were headed over to the famous island for Exhibition Outpost. Outpost is an exhibition for local graffiti artists/urban art which transformed the industrial island into a large outdoor art gallery from November 4^th – December 11^th.

Most of the artist are relatively unknown in the main stream world with the exception of an artist called Banksy, who maintained underground status for years until exploding on the scene back in 2007 where Adam and I first saw one of his exhibitions in NYC.

TROPFEST 2011

Just last night we went to the annual Tropfest Short Film Festival here in Sydney.  Turns out its the largest short film festival in the world and other than Sydney it is held in only ONE other place... New York City!! (yeah baby yeah!)

With thousands of films submitted only 16 were chosen to exhibit at the festival last night. Held in The Domain, we headed over with chairs, blanket, food and wine in hand to claim our turf. We arrived around 5pm and friends trickled in over the next couple hours. The show began at 8pm and wrapped up around 11pm. Here are some pictures from the event.

Some films were better than others but all were quite entertaining for one reason or another. My personal favorite ended up being the winner. It's called Animal Beatbox and I am sure you will enjoy it as well. Check it out but please note you might be chanting the words for the rest of your day.

Sculpture by the Sea

A few weekends ago we decided to check out the Sculptures By The Sea walk. (http://sculpturebythesea.com/). We had only been here two weeks and had heard great things about it from several people. The walk is an annual exhibit that starts at Bondi Beach and goes down to Tamarama Beach. This coastal walk is accessible all year long but during these few weeks there are beautiful (and not so beautiful) sculptures from a wide range of artists along the entire walk.

This was an amazing way to check out a few great beaches as well as some pretty sweet views. Afterward, we walked a little farther to Bronte Beach where we attended a BBQ birthday party. Overall, it was a great day! Check out our pictures.
